Building A Profitable Website From Start To Finish Tutorial (Part 2)

Posted by Paddy | May 24, 2009 .

Alrighty then. Lets get started and begin to build our network of money making websites. We are going to cover the following during this tutorial: -

  • Choosing our niche

I would like to start this tutorial to explain how we will be monetising our websites. Well, we will be using two monitising methods. #1 eBay affiliate program and #2 Adsense.

#1 eBay Affiliate Program

One of my big earners at the moment is the eBay Affiliate Program. This is where I get commission on eBay sales. This means I do not have to sell my own product or deal with the customer directly. I get commision when other people sell their product. This is all automated and I don’t need to do anything once my websites have been built and promoted in the apropriate mannor. Just the odd tweak once every month or two. Sound good? You bet ya!

#1 Adsense

When you start getting into affiliate marketing you will soon realise that there are two types of visitor to your websites. #1 A customer who is ready to buy something and #2 A vistor who is not really in the buying mode but just browsing. Our second monitising program is targeted at these types of vistors. Basically, we display Google Ads on our websites and we get paid everytime somebody clicks.

So these are the two monitising methods we are going to use on our network of money making websites.

Ok, so we need to start thinking about our first website. If you have purchased my Sleep Money System eBook you will already have learned how to pick a niche. If you havn’t read it I would highly recommend doing this first as you will then have a head start.

Choosing a profitable niche

I suggest we choose an easy niche initially as this will be our very first money making website. We need to choose a niche that does not have much competition. Choosing something like ‘iPods’ or ‘iPhones’ would be just silly as it would be very difficult for our new website to rank in the search engines for these search terms. We need to find something a little less ‘Popular’ but still be profitable.

One of the free tools I use is eBay Pulse. This is a tool to allow you to see whats currently hot within eBay. I use this information to find out what niche to target on my website. At the time of writing this post ‘Mobile Phones’ is the number 1 most searched after term on eBay.

Before you rush out and start building a website all about mobile phones, remember what I said about not picking a niche that is too hard?

What we can do at this point is to choose something releated to mobile phones but not mobile phones themselves. For example, if I search eBay for ‘mobile phone covers’ you can see that there is quite a lot of them for sale.

If we are going to be clever here, we would then ‘niche down’ a bit further and maybe choose ‘mobile phone covers nokia’ as our niche. Why do this? well, it’s simple, the more we drill down, the easier it will be to get our website’s to rank highly in the search engines for our particular niche.

At this point, you need to choose what niche you will be targeting before we move onto the next chapter. I suggest you pick at least 5 different niches as we will be analysing them to see which is the best one to use for our first website. We will do this by checking the amount of expected vistors to our niche by using another free tool.

A few exmple niche’s you might choose is ‘red cotton socks’ or ‘green electric guitars’

NOTE: Don’t pick the niches above because if everyone who reads these tutorials build the same websites then nobody is going to make any money!

Ok guys and gals, go forth and choose at lease 5 potential niches ready for the next tutorial. We will be selecting just one for our new website!
